Villiers welcomes fall in unemployment in Chipping Barnet

Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has welcomed the fall in the national and local figures for unemployment. The number of people claiming unemployment benefits in the Chipping Barnet constituency in December 2013 was 1,522. This represents a rate of 2.7% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, and is 506 lower than in December 2012 and 55 lower than in November 2013. The national rate of unemployment has fallen to 7.1%.

VILLIERS ATTENDS HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL CEREMONY IN BARNET

Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, today attended the Holocaust Memorial service hosted by the London Borough of Barnet which took place in Middlesex University's Ricketts Quadrangle in the Burroughs in Hendon.Speaking after the event, Theresa Villiers said "I have been attending Barnet's commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day for nearly ten years now and it never fails to move me and cause me to reflect afresh on the horrors of the horrific mass murder for which the Nazis were responsible."

VILLIERS SIGNS BOOK OF COMMITMENT ON REMEMBERING THE HOLOCAUST

Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, this afteroon signed the Book of Commitment set up in the House of Commons by the Holocaust Educational Trust.Every year, the Book of Commitment gives MPs the opportunity to honour those who were victims of the Holocaust and to express their commitment to combating prejudice and anti-semitism.

THERESA VILLIERS WISHES HER CONSTITUENTS A HAPPY CHRISTMAS

I very much hope that the Christmas season will be a happy time for my constituents with a chance to slow down and spend time with friends and family. But for some, Christmas can be difficult. Those who have suffered bereavement can find the festive season a painful reminder of the loss of a loved one. My father died in the summer and I and my family will miss him more than ever when Christmas Day comes around.

VILLIERS OPENS EAST BARNET VILLAGE FESTIVE FAIR

Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet formally opened the East Barnet Village Festive Fair on Saturday at 4pm at the Friend Need Centre at East Barnet Baptist Church. The fair was organised by Alison Phillips and a team of volunteers to promote shopping in East Barnet Village.Opening the fair, Theresa said "I am sure this will be a great event for East Barnet. Local shops are not just important for our economy, they are a much valued part of our community too. So it is fantastic that this festive fair is going ahead to encourage people to shop locally."
