VOTE NO TO AV ON THURSDAY 5TH MAY

On Thursday 5th May, there will be a nationwide referendum to decide whether we should scrap our current voting system and replace it with one called the alternative Vote (AV). Nick Clegg insisted on this referendum as the price for entering into a coalition with the Conservatives because AV strongly favours the Liberal Democrats.I have joined people from right across the political spectrum to campaign for a No vote because I believe AV is the wrong voting system for our country.

VILLIERS ATTENDS OPENINGS OF BARNET COLLEGE AND EAST BARNET SCHOOL

On Tuesday, Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, joined staff, pupils, the Mayor of Barnet and local councillors at the official opening of Barnet College and East Barnet School. The Duke of Gloucester was invited to tour both facilities and conduct the opening ceremonies.

VILLIERS MEETS WITH CYPRIOT EDUCATION AND CULTURE MINISTER AT HELLENIC SCHOOL OF HIGH BARNET

On Saturday, Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, joined the pupils and parents of Hellenic School of High Barnet, based in East Barnet School's new building, to welcome the Cypriot Education and Culture Minister, Andreas Demetriou. The Hellenic School, which runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays to teach Greek language and culture, was chosen as just one of four schools for the minister to visit while he was in Britain.

VILLIERS HELPS CELEBRATE THE FINCHLEY SOCIETY'S 40TH ANNIVERSARY

On Saturday, Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, joined residents of Finchley and Friern Barnet to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of The Finchley Society. Also in attendance was Mike Freer, MP for Finchley and Golders Green, and the Deputy Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Lisa Rutter. At the event, Theresa was invited by the Chairman of The Finchley Society, David Smith, to speak about the ever-changing character of transport in North London.

VILLIERS WELCOMES NEW CRIME-MAPPING WEBSITE

MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, has welcomed a new Government website that will enable residents in Chipping Barnet to access detailed information about crime in their local area. Using data maps, residents will be able to see when and where a crime has been committed in their neighbourhood, right down to the level of their street. The website is located at www.police.uk.

VILLIERS RALLIES SUPPORT FOR CLIMATE CHANGE WEEK

In the run up to Climate Change Week in March, Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has urged schools, charities, businesses and individuals across Chipping Barnet to get involved by running an event or activity to show their support for positive action to combat climate change.

VILLIERS WELCOMES EXTRA SECURITY FUNDING FOR JEWISH SCHOOLS

MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, has welcomed an announcement by the Education Secretary, Michael Gove, to grant two million pounds of funding to help step up security measures at state-funded Jewish Schools across Britain amid concerns about anti-semitic threats to pupils and staff.

VILLIERS WELCOMES ACADEMY STATUS FOR THE RAVENSCROFT SCHOOL

MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, has written to the Head Teacher of The Ravenscroft School, Paul Ferrie, to congratulate teachers and pupils on achieving Academy status. The Ravenscroft School is the third school in Chipping Barnet to be awarded Academy status and is set to open as an Academy at the beginning of the next academic year.
