VILLIERS WELCOMES ACADEMY STATUS FOR THE RAVENSCROFT SCHOOL

MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, has written to the Head Teacher of The Ravenscroft School, Paul Ferrie, to congratulate teachers and pupils on achieving Academy status. The Ravenscroft School is the third school in Chipping Barnet to be awarded Academy status and is set to open as an Academy at the beginning of the next academic year.

VILLIERS CONGRATULATES ASHMOLE SCHOOL ON ACHIEVING ACADEMY STATUS

MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, has written to the Head Teacher of Ashmole School, Derrick Brown, to congratulate teachers and pupils on making it into the first wave of schools to convert to academy status. Ashmole School is the second school in Chipping Barnet to achieve academy status and officially opened as an academy on the 1st October 2010.

VILLIERS SUPPORTS BOWEL CANCER SCREENING AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has thrown her support behind a campaign by the North London Cancer Network to raise awareness of the importance of being tested for bowel cancer. Bowel cancer screening is available free of charge to all residents over the age of sixty who are registered with a doctor, but uptake of the screening service in North London has been low - just forty-two percent compared to the national average of fifty-three per cent.

VILLIERS SUPPORTS CAMPAIGN TO SAVE WATER

MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, has joined forces with North London water provider, Veolia Water, to support their campaign to encourage customers to save water. This follows a particularly dry summer when demand for water rose by twenty percent across North London, creating problems for a number of customers who experienced interruptions to their water supply and low pressure.

VILLIERS WELCOMES ACADEMY STATUS FOR QUEEN ELIZABETH BOYS' SCHOOL

Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has congratulated Queen Elizabeth Boys' School on making it into the first wave of schools to convert to academy status in time for the start of the academic year. Queen Elizabeth Boys' School is one of thirty-two outstanding schools across the country to open as an academy this September, with over a hundred more on track to convert over the coming months. Sixty-four brand new academies replacing failing schools have also opened in time for the new school term.

VILLIERS WELCOMES MOVE TO ELIMINATE MIXED-SEX HOSPITAL WARDS

MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, has welcomed an announcement by the Health Secretary, Andrew Lansley, to eliminate mixed-sex hospital accommodation in England. Labour first promised to put an end to mixed-sex wards way back in 1997, but many failed to be abolished. Andrew Lansley, has pledged to adopt a new approach based on the consistent reporting of service failures and a tougher regime of sanctions where services let patients down.

VILLIERS WELCOMES ANNOUCEMENT TO CANCEL EARLY CLOSURES ON THE NORTHERN LINE THIS SUMMER

Theresa Villiers, in her capacity as MP for Chipping Barnet, has welcomed the announcement this week by Transport for London, that they have cancelled all existing plans to close the Northern Line's Bank and Barnet branches early on weekdays over the summer, pending a review of the programme. The closures had been scheduled to start on Monday evening. TfL have announced that the line will continue to run as normal while they undertake a thorough assessment of what closures are needed for upgrade work.
