Tributes paid to volunteers at Building Friendship drop-in service in East Barnet

After visiting East Barnet Baptist Church, Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has paid tribute to their Building Friendship initiative. This is a drop-in service which takes place every Friday morning at the church in Crescent Road, East Barnet, from 10 am to 12 noon. It is run entirely by volunteers and offers support to those with mental health problems.

Barnet artist praised by Theresa Villiers MP

Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has praised the work of local Barnet artist, Renos Lavithis, after visiting a display of his paintings and drawings in the Coffee Seeker café in Ballards Lane, North Finchley.

Villiers backs Edmonton waste plant proposals

Following a visit to the North London Waste Authority (NLWA) incinerator in Advent Way in Edmonton, Theresa Villiers MP has urged her Chipping Barnet constituents to back the NLWA’s proposals for a replacement waste facility there. During the visit, she was briefed on the project by NLWA managing director, David Beadle, and was given a tour of the waste incineration plant.

Better Broadband for Barnet: campaign update

Theresa Villiers, newly re-elected MP for Chipping Barnet, has published the following update on her campaign to improve access to fast fibre broadband in her constituency.I fully appreciate the concern felt by local residents regarding the gaps in coverage of fast fibre broadband. While it is welcome that around 91% of premises can get fast broadband in the Chipping Barnet constituency, that does not bring a great deal of comfort to the 9% or so who are not covered and who are left with slower internet speeds. As ever more services move on-line, it becomes more important than ever that as many homes and businesses as possible are connected up to fast broadband. The problem is particularly severe in parts of High Barnet but there are also gaps in coverage in Totteridge. 

Campaign to save Greek A Level

Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has started a campaign to save the A level in Greek and stop it from being abolished by Edexcel (who set exams). She also believes it is very important to retain A levels in other languages, such as Turkish and Polish, which face the threat of abolition from the OCR exam board.

Changes to Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams in Barnet welcomed

Theresa Villiers, newly re-elected MP for Chipping Barnet, has welcomed changes in the way Barnet's ward based Safer Neighbourhood Police Teams (SNT) will operate. These changes follow a review set up by the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe. Theresa was briefed on the changes at a meeting of the Underhill Ward Community Action Panel (CAP) meeting on Friday, which took place at Barnet Police Station.

Villiers appointed to Cameron's new Cabinet

Theresa Villiers has been appointed to David Cameron's new Cabinet, continuing in her role as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. David Cameron gave her the news at a meeting in Number 10 Downing Street on Monday and the Cabinet met for the first time on Tuesday.

Theresa Villiers re-elected as MP for Chipping Barnet

In the early hours of this morning, Theresa Villiers was re-elected to the House of Commons as MP for Chipping Barnet with a majority of 7656 votes. The count for all three parliamentary constituencies in the borough of Barnet took place at Allianz Park. Theresa has issued the following statement:
