Theresa Villiers, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Chipping Barnet, has issued the following election day statement:
“If you want a new Government, the only way you can make this happen, is to go out and vote Conservative today.
There is a simple choice today, between five more years of Gordon Brown and his tied Labour Government, or change with the Conservatives. From tomorrow, if we are elected, we will get to work to fulfil our contract with the British people – to get the economy moving, improve front line services and move the country forward. We won’t leave the poorest and the vulnerable behind because we’re all in this together. And the Conservatives are the only party to take the immigration issue seriously. We are the only party promising to put a limit on non-EU migration and reduce net migration to this country.
I have campaigned tirelessly over the past five years in Chipping Barnet on the issues that matter to local people. If re-elected, I pledge to fight Labours threat to vital A&E and maternity services at Barnet hospital, give police more time on the streets, defend Barnet’s green belt from development and work to cut the deficit for the stability needed to protect jobs and businesses in Barnet.
There’s also another very good reason to vote Conservative today.
Voting for anyone other than the Conservatives could produce a hung parliament, which would be detrimental to Britain’s economic recovery and keep Gordon Brown at Number 10.
We have heard much during this campaign about the Liberal Democrats – but here, as in many other places across the country, a vote for the Liberal Democrats will only let Labour back into power. The Liberal Democrats’ policies for an immigration amnesty, to scrap prison sentences under six months, keep Labour’s jobs tax and join the euro would damage Britain. And if Gordon Brown gets back in, with their support, we will have a Labour Government that will offer more of the same, led by a desperate Prime Minister.
Only a vote for the Conservatives can bring about the change so desperately needed in this country. A vote for anyone else lets Gordon Brown off the hook.
By voting Conservative today – we will get a strong Conservative Government that will work tirelessly to deliver the change this country desperately need.”
