VILLIERS VISIT TO WHITINGS HILL SCHOOL TO SUPPORT "MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY"

MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, yesterday spent time at Whitings Hill Primary School, Quinta Drive, Barnet, helping local children with their reading practice, as part of her support for Make a Difference Day. This is a national project running throughout this week organised by the charity, CSV, to encourage people to volunteer to help a good cause for a day. It is coordinated locally by Bill Ibbotson of the Barnet charity, RSVP. Following her visit to Whitings Hill, Theresa said:

“Every year RSVP in Barnet, and its parent organisation, CSV, do brilliant work encouraging people to volunteer to help out in community and charity projects. Their annual “Make a Difference Day” activities are just part of year round projects which are very valuable to the community and include excellent work helping out in schools and hospitals.”

“I enjoyed meeting the children at Whitings Hill and spending time helping them with their reading practice.”

“Everyone made me feel very welcome. It was a great opportunity to see the school’s new facilities and to talk to the teachers and the children about the issues that matter to them. For example, we had some really interesting discussions about school transport and the work the school is doing to encourage children to walk or cycle to school.”

“Thousands of people in our community volunteer regularly. People can do a huge amount to help the vulnerable by getting involved in the kind of projects run by Bill Ibbotson at RSVP. Volunteering can benefit those who do it as well as those they help, because it provides the opportunity to give something back to the community as well make new friends.”

“I’ve been supporting Make a Difference Day for some years and will go on doing that in the future. I hope that many of my constituents will choose to do the same.”
