VILLIERS CONGRATULATES STAFF AT BARCLAYS ON FUNDRAISING EFFORTS FOR CANCER TREATMENT IN NORTH LONDON

MP for Chipping Barnet, Theresa Villiers, visited Barclays in Whetstone on Friday for a reception to congratulate the staff there after they raised more money than any other branch in a campaign to improve cancer treatment in the North London.

Since last September, the Whetstone branch has raised over £6,832, with Barclays head office matching the funds raised, pound for pound. Activities undertaken ranged from sky dives to dress down days and coffee mornings. In total, Barclays raised around £140,000 which will fund a Macmillan Cancer Support nurse. During her visit to the branch, Theresa heard about the valued contribution the new nurse will make to improving chemotherapy services in Chipping Barnet and the rest of the borough.

Joined at the event by Kate De Lord, the Macmillan nurse funded by the Barclays scheme, Theresa Villiers MP said, “Thanks to the tremendous efforts of staff at Barclays across north London and especially in Whetstone, my constituents coping with cancer will have increased support and access to top class treatment.”

“During such a serious a recession, it is heart-warming to see that charitable schemes like this can still be so successful, because they make such a hugely valuable contribution to the lives of people affected by cancer in our community.”
