Theresa Villiers, Member of Parliament for Chipping Barnet, has welcomed an announcement by Conservative Health Secretary, Andrew Lansley, during a visit to Chase Farm Hospital last Friday, to re-open the previous government's decision to locate specialist stroke services away from Barnet Hospital.
Following a lengthy consultation period last year, Barnet residents voted overwhelmingly in favour of bringing specialist stroke services to Barnet Hospital. Despite this, Barnet was overlooked meaning that residents faced having to make the lengthy and difficult journey to Northwick Park Hospital to receive treatment.
Theresa said, “This is a promising result for my constituents, whose views were ignored during Labour's consultation process last year.”
“Just last week Andrew Lansley announced a to halt NHS London’s plans to downgrade Barnet’s A&E department. This decision on stroke services review is another example of Conservatives listening to the concerns of residents about what they want from their local hospital, rather than focusing on managers and targets.”
